The RCTC Common Book
(The Impossible Will Take A Little While)
and Students' Art Interactions Description of Project:
Students in the Art, Music, and Digital Art programs at Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) were so moved by the readings in the Common Book (The Impossible Will Take A Little While) that they decided to take action- artistic action. The central element to all our their creations centered around the gathering of favorite quotes by students of the RCTC campus. felt strongly. They were invited to then have their voices recorded reading that quote. They were also invited to find a visual image that they felt represented that quote. Over 180 quotes were collected and over 30 students were recorded reciting their selected quote (many of the students also volunteered to read their quote in their other language that they speak for a total of quotes read in five languages). Also, multiple images were selected. The students now had “content” with which to create art expressions. The results were exciting. The main projects that emerged were:
